Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of the potato value chain in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (TTH) and Casablanca-Settat (CS) regions. Our starting point is a descriptive analysis of the field data and the literature review. Then, through a functional analysis, we identify the actors of the chain, their functions and forms of organization, and the flows of exchange throughout it. The lack of institutional support, the lack of diversification of the Moroccan offer and its abundance during the seasonal production period, the low levels of organization and storage capacity and valuation available in each of the study areas are the main constraints oppose the improvement of the situation of the potato sector. From the financial point of view, the study of cost prices, profit margins, profits and added values ??for the various links in the chain reveals that the average production cost of 1.6 DH / kg of potatoes for the link "Producer". For the link of the commercial intermediaries, the highest cost is borne by the retailer. Thanks to the global analysis and the development of a SWOT matrix of the potato sector, we were able to draw a roadmap which proposes actions to improve the situation of this sector, on each axis of the upstream, downstream, marketing and agricultural aggregation. Concrete proposals for a storage and packaging unit at CS and a processing unit for French fries at TTH were also made through the development of business plans that ensured the viability and profitability of both projects (positive NPVs). , and IRRs of 13.56% and 11.16% respectively for the TTH project and that of CS with a discount rate of 7%).
